Pennine MSK’s Adult Rheumatology service deals with the investigation, diagnosis and management of people living with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.

Some Facts

1 in 5 people (30%) attend a GP appointment with Musculoskeletal (MSK) problems.

Risk factors for MSK problems include, smoking, being overweight, excess alcohol, inactivity, genetic factors and increasing in age.

Patients who have a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis account for 1% of the UK population and 80% of these patients have at least one other medical condition.

1.8 million people in the UK have Gout.

Three of the most common Inflammatory arthritis’s are Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) Psoriatic Arthritis (PSA) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS).

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common wear and tear MSK condition. It can affect any joint in the body however it is more likely to affect large weight bearing joints such as hips and knees.

About the Nurses

We provide a specialist service for patients referred by their GP by our team of expert’s.

As Specialist Nurses we provide education and support for Rheumatology Patients in face-to-face nurse clinics and over the telephone for those have been newly diagnosed and for patients who continue to be reviewed under our care.

We provide a Monday – Friday Rheumatology Nurse Advice Line service where patients can leave a message and then be contacted and offered help over the telephone in managing their condition.
